Untreated cavities cause infection in the pulp. In time, these cavities lead to inflammation in the teeth. As the blood can not run to the infected tooth  antibiotics doesn’t help to treat of the infection, in  other words pulp can not heal itself.  In addition, tooth breakage, cracking, trauma or previous fillings can also damage the pulp. Inflammation in the pulp may cause pain and infection.  This may cause abscess formation and damage to the bone surrouding the tooth. As a result, the purpose of the canal treatment is to remove the infected or damaged pulp, to treat the inflammation here, and to fill the empty canal with a special filling material. If the canal treatment is not performed effectively on time, it may be necessary to pull the tooth. It should not be forgotten that protecting natural teeth is very important for oral health. In addition that the damaged and infected tooth is becoming an infection center of the body,  the lack of tooth after withdrawal may also adversely affect the neighboring teeth, which in time may cause displacement and disruption of the posture. However, protecting natural teeth also eliminates the risk of applying expensive and deep treatments such as implants and bridges.

If necessary, anesthesia is applied. Then the cavity (canal) is opened in the tooth to reach the pulp nest and the length of the root canals is measured. An x-ray is taken to determine the canal length. Then the infection is removed. The canal is expanded with antiseptic washing solutions and files and then dried. All main and side canals into the tooth are cleaned. Each tooth has a different number of canals. The canals are filled with gutta-percha, which are permanent materials. Thus, infection and contamination are prevented in the canals. The tooth is closed with temporary filling until it is ready for permanent filling or crown application. The treatmnt to be appled at this stage may differ depending on the condition of the tooth. The tooth is restored with a composite filler, inlay, crown or post & core crown. There may be pain in the treated tooth for a few days after the end of treatment. Painkillers can be used for this period.
